Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in the Durumi Area 1 Camp, FCT have appealed for special consideration for their members in the on-going recruitment of 10,000 policemen in the country.
This is contained in a letter to the Chairman, Police Service Commission, Mr Mike Okiro, issued on Thursday in Abuja by Ibrahim Ahmadu and Bala Yusuf, Chairman and Secretary, respectively.
“We write to inform you of our desire to be accommodated in the Police recruitment recently announced by President Muhammadu Buhari.
“There are about 2,300 Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in the Durumi Area 1 Camp, of which about 700 are able bodied youth (male and female).
“Our records show that 96 of us have HND, NCE and OND qualifications, while about 500 possess Ordinary Level Certificate.
“Aware of the hardship we are passing through in the camp especially homelessness and joblessness; we passionately appeal to you to use your fatherly disposition and give special consideration to IDPs in the recruitment exercise,’’ it said.
The letter said some of the IDPs have lost their credentials while running away from the dreaded Boko Haram terrorists.
It urged the commission to liaise with WAEC, NECO and their respective institutions to ascertain the claims.
