The ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has postponed its National Convention slated for February 26, 2022 indefinitely, saying it will rather hold zonal congress scheduled for Saturday, 26th March, 2022.
This was revealed in a letter signed by Sen. James Akpanudoedehe, National Secretary, APC Caretaker and Extra-ordinary Convention Planning Committee (CECPC) and National Chairman, Caretaker and Extra-ordinary Convention Planning Committee (CECPC) Governor Mai Mala Buni and sent to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on Monday.
The letter read: “This notice supersedes our earlier notice for National Convention referenced APC/NHDQ/INEC/019/22/14 this is predicated on the evaluation of our party constitution.
“In furtherance to the Article 85 of the Electoral Act,2010 (as amended) and compliance with Section 12:6 of our Party Constitution, we hereby write to notify the Commission that our great Party, the All Progressives Congress (APC) has scheduled to hold its Zonal Congress on Saturday 26th March, 2022.
“Kindly arrange for your officials to monitor the exercise accordingly.
“While hoping to receive your cooperation, please accept the assurance of our highest esteem,”
TOS NEWS had reported that caretaker committee was planning to ask for a two-week shift from February 26 to March 12 regarding the convention but some governors were not in support.
According to sources, part of the argument for the shift of date being proposed by the caretaker committee earlier is the need to hold the zonal congresses to elect the zonal vice chairmen before the election of the members of the National Working Committee (NWC) while another is that the February 26 date coincides with by-elections in eight APC states.
