The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), FCT Command, has deployed 3,000 security personnel to tighten security during the 61st Independence Day celebration.
The FCT NSCDC spokesperson, Comfort Okomanyi, disclosed this in a statement on Tuesday in Abuja.
She said Mr. Peter Maigari, the FCT Corps Commandant, had ordered the deployment of 3,000 officers and men to increase patrols within the country’s capital to ensure a peaceful independence celebration.
“They are to maintain and boost security, especially toward the celebration of the nation’s 61st independence anniversary and thereafter.’’
Maigari warned that anyone caught destroying public facilities will be sanctioned.
“Any perpetrator involved in crime or any act of vandalism will squarely face the law,” he said.
The commandant urged everyone in the FCT to be careful and take precautionary measures to protect themselves.
“Report any suspicious activity or persons to the nearest security post for further action,” he advised.
He wished Nigerians a peaceful independence celebration.
