Nigerian artistes, Ayodeji Balogun (Wizkid), Temilade Openiyi (Tems), Damini Ogulu (Burna boy), Femi Kuti and Made Kuti have been named among nominees for the 2022 edition of the Grammy Awards.
The official nomination list was announced at the ceremony on Tuesday and the Recording Academy congratulated all nominated artistes.
Wizkid’s Made In Lagos album (Deluxe edition) and Femi Kuti and Made Kuti’s Legacy+ album got nominated for the “Best Global Music Album”. They were nominated alongside Rocky Dawuni (Voice of Bourbon, Vol 1), Angelique Kidjo (Mother Nature) and Daniel Ho & Friends (East West Platers Presents: Daniel Ho & Friends Live In Concert).
Burna Boy won in this category last year with his “Twice as Tall” album.
Essence, Star boy’s hit song from his MIL album featuring Tems was also nominated in the “Best Global Music Performance”. If he wins the award, Tems will also be getting an award for her contribution to the song and the album.
Others in this category include Arooj Aftab (Mohabbat), Angelique Kidjo and Burna Boy (Do Yourself), Femi Kuti (Pa Pa Pa) and Yo-Yo Ma and Angelique Kidjo (Blewu).
The awards ceremony which will recognise the best recordings, compositions and artistes for year 2021, will be held at the Crypto.com Arena, Los Angeles, formerly known as the Staples Centre.
The main event will air on January 31, 2022, at 8 pm ET/5 pm PT on the CBS Television Network.
