Primary schools teachers in the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, have commenced industrial action over some pending arrears.
This development was confirmed by Comrade Ameh Baba, Chairman, National Union of Teachers, Kubwa chapter, on Wednesday.
He said that teachers embarked on strike following a circular issued by their union the previous day.
He revealed that the area councils have failed to pay their members a log of arrears that cut across payment in promotion, and minimum wage beginning from 2011.
He stressed the union caledl off previous strike because of intervention of FCT Senator Philip Aduda, who promised they would start implementing their demands with immediate effect.
“But they are yet to abide by the promise, and it seems they are more concerned with their campaign that is currently taking the palace,” Baba said.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has set February 12, 2022, as the date for the conduct of elections into the six area councils of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
The teachers embarked on strike about three times last year. However, the y suspended their strike after interventions from relevant authorities.
