The Senate President of Nigeria, Ahmad Lawan has confirmed the defection of three senators from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The senate president read out the letter containing the lawmakers’ intention to defect to APC on Wednesday during the plenary session.
They include: Senator Peter Nwaoboshi representing Delta North; Sahabi Ya’u representing Zamfara North and Lawali Anka representing Zamfara West.
According to the senators, they chose to defect due to crisis happening in PDP.
There has been a wave of defections from the PDP in recent times. In less than two months, two governors from the party had joined the APC, claiming their move was in the best interest of the country.
The People’s Democratic Party, however, says it is not bothered by the defections, insisting it will help the party retake power from APC in year 2023.
“We stand here to state clearly that we will form the next government come 2023 because of the masses, not the governors who are leaving the PDP,” Uche Secondus, PDP’s national chairman said during a press conference in Abuja on Tuesday.
