Five people were dead on Thursday in road accidents in Rivers and Delta states.
Three people were confirmed dead in the Rivers’ incident which occurred at Iriebe on Port Harcourt-Aba Expressway.
The accident involved a Hiace bus and a stationary truck loaded with timber.
TOS NEWS gathered that the casualty figure was about six but the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) confirmed that three persons died while others sustained several degree of injuries.
Also, two people died in an accident in Delta which occurred at Ogwashi-Ukwu on the Ughelli-Asaba highway.
The Sector Commander of the FRSC, Ibrahim Abubakar, who confirmed this said the accident involved four vehicles, comprising a Toyota Sienna, a tanker and two trucks.
Abubakar attributed the accident to brake failure of one of the trucks.
“It emanated from a possible collision involving a Sienna bus, a tanker allegedly conveying liquefied gas and another truck carrying medical supplies.
“The driver of the Sienna bus and the front passenger reportedly died on the spot; an axe was used to dismantle the affected parts of the bus, to bring out the victims,” he said.
