Nigerian Nollywood actor, Olanrewaju Omiyinka, otherwise known as Baba Ijesha, has appeared on Wednesday at the Yaba Magistrates’ Court in Lagos State where the hearing of the sexual assault case against the actor is set to commence.
Baba Ijesha has been under fire since April 22, 2021, when the Lagos State Police Command announced his arrest for allegedly sexually assaulting a minor in the care of popular comedienne, Adekola Adekanya, also known as Princess.
Lagos State police spokesperson, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, had said in a statement that preliminary findings revealed that the suspect assaulted the victim sexually when she was seven years old.
The case has been stalled due to the industrial action by the Judicial Staff Union of Nigeria.
As the judicial workers called off their strike last week, Baba Ijesha has appeared in court for the hearing of the case.
Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Response Team had in April said Baba Ijesha may be tried for four offences including indecent treatment of a child and sexual assault.
LSDSVRT also highlighted some sections of the Lagos State’s law on sexual and domestic violence and the likely punishment if the Nollywood actor is found guilty.
