The police in Anambra State said they have killed two shooters implementing the suspended sit-at-home request in Umunze, Orumba South Local Government Area of Anambra State, Premium Times reports.
This comes after gunmen on Sunday night set ablaze the Local Government Secretariat in Ogidi, Idemili North area and a Magistrates’ court. The gunmen frequently target security offices and government offices.
The shooters allegedly went after certain merchants on Monday at a traffic circle, near the famous Nkwo Umunze market.
An inhabitant of the area, Comfort Mokaogwu, let PREMIUM TIMES know that the shooters set a cruiser burning, and annihilated a few merchandise.
“The shooters didn’t kill anyone,” she said.
A video cut which was partaken in some WhatsApp bunches showed a few handcarts loaded up with rice, garri and beans, tossed on the ground by the shooters.
The consumed bike was likewise caught in the video, while a foundation voice in the clasp faulted the merchants for spurning the sit-at-home request.
The police spokesperson in Anambra, Tochukwu Ikenga told PREMIUM TIMES the shooters were subsequently shot dead by police agents during a shootout.
He said the police in the state have developed new procedures to handle the rising uncertainty and find shooters threatening inhabitants.
Mr Ikenga also expressed that some of the residents who were abducted by the gunmen had been freed by the police.
