According to an update posted on its Facebook page on Saturday, the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control confirmed that the country registered 129 new cases of the coronavirus on Friday across 10 states and the Federal Capital Territory.
The NCDC latest data also showed that Nigeria reported 16 fresh covid-19 related deaths, raising the fatality toll to 2,949.
The breakdown of the newly registered cases revealed that Katsina State recorded the highest number of new infections with 53 cases followed by Kwara – 32, Osun – 8, Plateau – 8, Rivers – 6, Kaduna – 6, FCT – 5, Kano – 5, Oyo – 4, Jigawa – 1, Bauchi – 1
The NCDC added that the 129 new COVID-19 infections raised the total number of cases to 213,076.
However, 205,483 COVID-19 patients have recovered and have been discharged, the agency said.
It added that a multi-sectoral national Emergency Operations Centre, activated at Level 2, had continued to coordinate the national response activities.
