Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni on Sunday said the deadly blast that occurred in Kampala late on Saturday appeared to be an act of terrorism.
“It seems to be a terrorist act,” Museveni Tweeted on Sunday.
“The information I have is that 3 people came and left a package in kaveera [plastic bag] which later on exploded,” Museveni said.
According to local media, the blast occurred at Digida Pork Joint, a restaurant.
The president said one person died from the explosion in the capital. Asan Kasingye, Police chief political commissar said late on Saturday that two people died.
At least seven people were injured, TV station NTV reported.
There has been no claim of responsibility by anyone or group for the rare occurrence.
