A veteran journalist and publisher of Ovation magazine Dele Momodu on Thursday has announced his intention to contest for president in 2023 general elections under the umbrella of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP).
He disclosed this at the PDP National Secretariat in Abuja after formally presenting his letter of intent to join the presidential race to the National Chairman, Dr. Iyorchia Ayu.
Momodu said he informed the party Chairman of intention because there is no way for him to become the president unless his political party first nominates him.
In his remarks, Ayu promised not to give undue support to any aspirant, stressing that the party has no preferred candidate.
Ayu said the aspirant had brought his political and media experience to the party, enjoining him to seek the support of the members of the party.
He added that the party would throw its weight behind him if he emerges as its candidate and will expect all other aspirants to work with whoever becomes the standard-bearer of the party.
Momodu who joined the PDP last year explained that his decision was to contribute meaningfully to the development of the country.
The former presidential candidate complained that the achievements recorded under the PDP administration “have been diluted, wasted, or diminished by the present APC government.”
