Operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on Tuesday broke into the residence of Senator Rochas Okorocha at Maitama, Abuja and arrested him.
The EFCC insisted that journalists must leave the premises, as they used teargas to disperse them from the scene.
The EFCC laid siege to Okorocha’s home from 11.30am, blocking the entrance gate with vehicles while heavily armed policemen were placed at all strategic locations inside and outside the premises.
Okorocha before he was arrested described the siege as “an ugly development that does not portray those involved in good light.”
He revealed that no formal invitation was given to him prior to the raid and also alleged that the raid was to stop him from attending the APC presidential screening, which he said was ongoing.
The EFCC on the other hand explained in a statement that Okorocha was needed to explain his roles in ongoing investigations.
The commission also alleged that he jumped administrative bail earlier granted to him and refused to honour invitations by the Commission.
On January 24, 2022, the EFCC filed a 17-count criminal charge bordering on diversion of public funds and properties to the tune of N2.9billion against Okorocha.
