The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission said it has apprehended three suspects caught with 1,144 Automated Teller Machine (ATM) cards at the Malam Aminu Kano International Airport in Kano, Kano State.
According to the statement issued by Wilson Uwujaren,the agency’s spokesperson, on Friday, the suspects were caught while attempting to smuggle the ATM cards out of the country.
Uwujaren noted that the arrest was made between November 24 and December 1, 2021.
Suspects arrested by the EFCC are Abdullahi Usman, Musa Abubakar and Abdulwahid Auwalu.
Uwujaren said that upon their arrest, Musa Abubakar, who was on his way to Dubai, United Arab Emirates, was discovered to have concealed 714 ATM cards, while Abdullahi Usman, who was heading to Saudi Arabia, had 298 ATM cards in his possession.
Auwalu, on the other hand, was arrested with 132 ATM cards while trying to board an Ethiopian Airlines flight to Istanbul, Turkey.
“The suspects will be charged to court as soon as the investigation is conclude,” the statement said.
