Aaron Ramsey and Connor Roberts scored as Wales took a huge step towards reaching the last 16 at Euro 2020 with a 2-0 win over Turkey in Baku on Wednesday.
Wales, semi-finalists five years ago, moved top of Group A before Italy host Switzerland later in the day in Rome.
Captain Bale lifted a superb pass over the Turkish defence for Ramsey to control and finish with a flourish.
Bale later missed a penalty in the second half but remained undeterred by that setback as he set up Connor Roberts to score Wales’ second in added time.
Ramsey said: “We’ve given ourselves a brilliant opportunity tonight.
“It (the penalty) was a big moment in the game but we dug in, to a man we left everything out there. That’s what we’ve built our success on.”
Captain Bale said: “It’s difficult to compare with 2016 but it’s still a fantastic win.
“We’ll enjoy this, this evening and tomorrow and then we’ll look ahead to the next game.”
