Former Senate President, David Mark has encouraged Benue State Governor Samuel Ortom on Thursday, to remain committed to protecting the lives and properties of the people of Benue state as regards the current level of insecurity in the state.
In a statement by his media aide, Paul Mumeh, in Abuja, Mark lamented that Benue State has been faced with insecurity ranging from farmers-herders’ conflict, banditry, militancy, and kidnapping, among others that are affecting the state.
Therefore, he urged Ortom to “liaise and collaborate with all relevant security agencies in order to halt the trend and free the people from the apron string of the criminals.”
He also told Ortom that although the challenges are overwhelming, he should not to be discouraged by the situation but rather be strengthened by the support and unity of the Benue people to defeat the attackers.
Mark, in his congratulatory message to Governor Ortom on his 60th birthday said: “Ortom’s trajectory in the political terrain of Nigeria from the State Secretary of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) to National Auditor of the party, Minister of State, Trade and Investment and now Governor of Benue State bears eloquent testimony of his political brinksmanship. He is God-fearing, confident and humble.
“As he marks the attainment of his diamond jubilee, I wish him good health, wisdom and courage in the years ahead.”
