Sequel to his defection to the All Progressives Congress (APC), Zamfara State Governor , Bello Matawalle has revealed that he decamped from the Peoples Democratic Party so that the killing in his state will stop.
Zamfara’s helmsman made this known in an interview exclusively done by the People’s Journalist, Chief Osasu Igbinedion, a day after his defection at the state government house in Gusau.
He said “I decided to change (political parties) so that I can bring peace to my state.”
During the interview , he further said “now that we all belong to the ruling party I now have the full backing of the federal government to fight insecurity.”
The governor who advised his colleagues in the PDP to defect to the APC so that peace can be restored to their states also warned the Chairman of the People’s Democratic Party, Uche Secondus, noting that he will not be intimated by his threats to take him to court for his decision to defect.
“He should know I’m not a small boy; I don’t succumb to that type of intimidation. He should know I’m a fighter. Even when I was in the Courts they (PDP) didn’t give me any support. They should know they are fighting someone who is strong and they can’t do anything.
“They should go and read the constitution, they are ignorant of the law. I’m not the type of person they can intimidate,” he said.
Backing his stance, he stated that other members of the PDP defected from other parties particularly the incumbent Governor of Edo State, Godwin Obaseki who defected from the APC to PDP and during Goodluck Jonathan’s administration, Former Senate President and Kwara State Governor Dr. Bukola Saraki and many others.
Responding to the decision of his Deputy to remain in the PDP, he said “there is no cause for alarm; he can stay where he wants. I’m going to work with him; he is my junior brother.”
