Ekiti State Chief Magistrate’s Court, Ado Ekiti Magisterial District Thursday jailed six members of Ekiti Football Association for 14 days over contempt of court.
They are Ariyo Yomi Amos, J.I Fatukasi, Ajibewa, Ibidun Isaac, Aregbesola and Bayo Olanlege.
Adesoji Adegboye, the Chief Magistrate having listened to the counsels to the applicants and defendants, said, “The sanctity of court must be protected at all times.”
Adegboye added, “The order which sought to commit the defendants to prison for disobedience to the order of this honourable court made on April 18, 2019 is hereby granted.
“The 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th respondents are to be kept at the Correctional Centre, Ado Ekiti and produced in this court on Thursday 29th of July, 2021, when they should have been purged of the contempt,” the magistrate said.
The magistrate, however, adjourned till July 29th, 2021 for hearing of the substantive matter.
In the matter, the applicants: Segun Adelakun, Olu Ikusemori and Ajayi Lanre had through their counsel Opeyemi Ogunremi on May 14, 2019, brought an order pursuant to Section 52 of Ekiti State Magistrate Court Law, 2014 to the court.
The applicants were seeking for an order committing the respondents to prison for disobedience to the order of court made on 18th of April, 2019.
The applicants had on March 27, 2019 brought an ex-parte motion to court seeking an order of the court restraining the defendants from further parading themselves as members of the executive board of the Ekiti State FA pending the determination of suit against them.
The court had on April 18, 2019 granted the said ex-parte, but despite that, the defendants continued to parade themselves in office, hence the application for an order to commit them to prison.
