Fani-Kayode Re-arrested by EFCC Immediately after Court Session
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has re-arrested former Minister of Aviation, Femi Fani-Kayode, at the Federal High Court in Lagos, on Tuesday.
EFCC is interrogating Fani-Kayode over an alleged document falsification.
Fani-Kayode is on trial along with a former Minister of State for Finance, Nenandi Usman; a former Chairman of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON) Yusuf Danjuma and a company, Jointrust Dimentions Ltd.
The anti-graft agency tendered a 17-count charge of N4.6billion money laundering against them before Justice Mohammed Aikawa, they pleaded not guilty to the charges and were granted bail.
The defendants were present in court yesterday when the case was mentioned, however Mrs Usman’s lawyer, Chief Ferdinard Orbih (SAN), was absent.
Prosecuting counsel Rotimi Oyedepo told the court that the prosecution was glad that the court had figured out from its record that Fani-Kayode had sought excuses from the court repeatedly, to be absent.
The case was adjourned until January 24, 2022 and the defendants left the court room.
As the former Minister was still in the corridor of the court, an EFCC operative walked up to him alongside the prosecutor and after a one on one conversation, Fani-Kayode was seen entering his vehicle and following the EFCC operatives to their office.
It was reported that Fani-Kayode was in EFCC custody and was undergoing interrogated over the documents falsification.
Responding on his official Facebook page, the controversial politician said, “I was invited to the EFCC again today. Once again, despite media reports, I was not arrested but merely invited and I honored the invitation. I got there at 11.00am and left 9.00pm. Thanks to God!.”
This is coming after the media was awash on November 23 that he was arrested by the anti-graft agency.
