Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, on behalf of the federal government confirmed that £4,214,017.66 of the loot associated with the family members of a former Delta State Governor, James Ibori has been received.
Spokesperson of the minister,Dr. Umar Gwandu, disclosed this in a statement on Tuesday.
According to the statement, the amount has been credited into the designated Federal Government account with naira equivalent value of the amount as of May 10, 2021.
Dr. Umar Gwandu in a statement on May 3, said “Any moment from now, Nigeria will get the return of the 4.2 million pounds seized from the associates of convicted former Governor of Delta, James Ibori.”
The UK and Nigerian governments had on March 9, signed an agreement for the £4.2m recovered by UK agencies to be sent back to Nigeria for infrastructure projects, which include the Lagos to Ibadan Expressway, the Abuja to Kano road and the second Niger Bridge.
