The National Economic Council (NEC) chaired by Vice President Yemi Osinbajo has disclosed that the Federal Government has paid for 40m doses of Covid-19 vaccines and is expected to come into the country in batches between October 2021 and January 2022.
This was contained in a statement titled, ‘NEC: States, FG to pay compensation to victims of EndSars protests and prosecute those indicted’ by the Senior Special Assistant to the Vice President on Media and Publicity, Laolu Akande.
The disclosure was part of the report of the NEC ad-hoc committee interfacing with the presidential task force on COVID-19, led by Governor of Delta State, Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa.
Osinbajo said the Federal Ministry of Health is creating oxygen plants in 36 states of the country, noting that so far, only six states have been provided with oxygen cylinders.
He added that Nigeria is now categorized among the 50 countries in the green zones.
The Director-General, Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC), Dr. Ifedayo Adetifa said according to the states’ performance report on Covid-19, the total number of active cases and deaths currently stands at 9,520 and 2,761 respectively.
Also speaking on the cholera outbreak in the country, Adetifa said there are 88,704 suspected cases across 31 states and the FCT and there have been 3,208 deaths from the outbreak so far.
