Federal government through the minister of Health, Dr. Osagie Ehanire has asked resident Doctors to call off their strike.
He said this on Wednesday, April 7 in Abuja at a media briefing to celebrate World Health Day.
The aggrieved Doctors who began strike on Thursday April 1, complained bitterly about the non-payment of salaries of three to five months, non-recruitment of house officers, non-payment of National Minimum wage, abolishment of the bench fees for doctors undergoing training in other hospitals and hazard allowances.
While delivering his speech, Ehanire said the strike came at a crucial time as people are in need of urgent health care.
He also stated that the house officers have started to receive their deserved entitlements.
“We are working assiduously to address other issues raised by the doctors. Mindful of the huge Human Resource for Health challenges and hard work to build them and expand it; we encourage setting up more of training institutions for health workers.” He said.
He further said that 2021 is the international year for Health and care workers in appreciation of the selfless roles they have played and continue to play, to better the health system at large.
