World football governing body, FIFA, has allowed Leicester City Star, Ademola Lookman to switch his allegiance from England to Nigeria.
The 24-year-old London native, who was born to Nigerian parents and grew up in Peckham, has represented England from under-19 to under-21 levels but haven’t make debut for England’s senior.
This was announced in a statement issued on Thursday by Ademola Olajire, the communications director of Nigeria Football Federation.
According to the statement, Emilio Garcia Silveiro, FIFA’s Chief Legal and Compliance Officer, on Thursday, conveyed to the NFF the decision of the Single Judge of the Status Chamber of the Football Tribunal: “The request made by the NFF – Nigeria Football Federation for a change of association of the player Ademola Olajide Lookman is accepted.
“The player Ademola Olajide Lookman is eligible to play for the representative teams of the NFF – Nigeria Football Federation with immediate effect.”
Reacting to this development, the NFF General Secretary, Dr Mohammed Sanusi, commended the record-time approval granted the fresh application by the Federation with regards to Lookman’s desire to play for super eagles.
“We sent in the application on Wednesday night after putting all the necessary documentation together. We are happy to receive the approval today,” he said.
