At the First Gem Annual Conference 4.0 held online, the Chief Executive Officer of First Bank of Nigeria Limited, Dr Adesola Adeduntan, said the bank has given N58 billion loans to entrepreneurs and professionals in one year.
The loan which was given to 81,000 female business owners was meant to support their businesses.
Dr Adeduntan also stated that the bank has about 24,500 female agents representing 28% of the agents in their network.
Expressing how he feels, he said ‘it gives the team great joy to know that women are embracing the idea and getting empowered.’
“A review of the performance of the FirstGem initiative shows the effectiveness of our efforts to elevate and empower the Nigerian woman. In 2020, we gave out loans of N58bn to over 81,000 female entrepreneurs and professionals,” he noted.
Meanwhile, Chairman of First Bank Nigeria, Mrs Ibukun Awosika, who spoke at the conference on a topic titled ‘Art of Negotiation’, mentioned that women are equally smart but most times they are disadvantaged.
Awosika added that female entrepreneurs will need to understand government policies and embrace technology to succeed in business.
