Nigerian politician and former Aviation Minister during President Olusegun Obasanjo’s administration, Femi Fani-Kayode has officially defected to the All Progressives Congress.
Special Adviser to President Buhari on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina, disclosed this in the photos he shared on his official Facebook page on Thursday, with the caption “ President Buhari Receives New APC Member Femi Fani-Kayode in State House on 16th September 2021.”
Prior to his defection, the essayist, poet and lawyer had for a while been romancing bigwigs of the ruling party amid stern speculations. He had in the early hours of today on his Facebook page shared pictures of him with the governor of Kogi State, Yahaya Bello and Mai Mala Buni, the governor of Yobe State, who doubles as National Chairman of the APC Caretaker Committee.
He was with the opposition’s All Progressive Congress until June 2014 when he returned to the ruling Peoples Democratic Party.
Femi, who was the spokesperson of President Goodluck Jonathan’s campaign team in 2015 had virulently criticized Buhari and the APC.
On 25th of August 2020, while attending a brief press conference during his tour of Southern Nigeria, he insulted and denigrated a journalist from Daily Trust a subsidiary of media trust. The journalist had allegedly said “we don’t know who is bankrolling you” and this had set FFK off on a tirade of words. Press houses as well as Nigerians on Twitter and other social networks expressed great displeasure at his barrage of insults taking into context the fact that he was a lawyer and could have exhibited more decorum. On 26th of August 2020, he issued an apology to the journalist which has since been considered to be half-hearted and insincere on his part.
