The former CBN governor who is also an aspirant in the forthcoming gubernatorial election in Anambra was attacked in Aguata LGA.
TOS News learnt that he was meeting with youths at Isuofia community when the gunmen stormed the area and opened fire.
His condition was not immediately clear but three police officers with him reportedly lost their lives.
Tochukwu Ikenga, the state police command, confirmed the incident, although he could not provide any detail regarding the casualties.
“There was a gathering there (in Isuofia) where he (Soludo) attended. They were attacked there but that is all I know for now. I am still gathering the details.
“He was not the only one there as it was a political gathering; but I am yet to get the number of casualties and how the incident unfolded,”he said.
There has been tension in Anambra in recent months as the election draws nearer.
The tension has also resulted in an increase in security incidents, especially in remote areas.
Less than two weeks ago, three policemen and four naval officers were said to have killed during separate attacks by gunmen.
