Former Minister of Transport, Ibrahim Isa Bio has defected from the All Progressives Congress(APC) to the Peoples Democratic Party(PDP) on Thursday.
The former Speaker of the Kwara State House of Assembly defected alongside his supporters at his Gure/Gwasoro Ward in Baruten Local Government Area of Kwara State.
The party’s Publicity Secretary, Tunde Ashaolu, in a statement in Ilorin welcomed Bio to the PDP, and hailed him for taking the bold step to join the party.
He said, “The action reflects the wishes of Kwarans who are tired of the misrule of the Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq led administration. We are pleased to welcome former Minister Ibrahim Isa Bio and his followers into the Kwara PDP family.
“We applaud his voluntary bold and timely decision to dump the retrogressive and dysfunctional APC and pitch tent with our party that is moving from strength to strength,” he said.
Ashaolu also expressed his hope that Bio’s defection would strengthen the party, being a respected community leader and experienced politician.
Bio was appointed by late President Umaru Yar’Adua as Nigeria’s Minister of Transportation on 17 December, 2008. After Vice-President Goodluck Jonathan became acting President in February 2010, he dissolved the cabinet on 17 March 2010, and swore in a new cabinet on 6 April 2010 with Ibrahim Bio as Minister for the National Sports Commission.
