France has suspended its military cooperation and budgetary aid on 10 million Euros to the Central African Republic government.
“On several occasions, the Central African authorities have made commitments which they have not kept, both politically towards the opposition and on behavior towards France, which is the target of a massive disinformation campaign in CAR“, said the Ministry of the Armed Forces as the reason for the stoppage of France’s military and financial aid.
“The Russians are not to blame for nothing, but the Central Africans are at best complicit in this campaign” the ministry added.
In December 2020, Russia urgently dispatched 300 military instructors to the aid of the destitute army of President Faustin Archange Touadéra, threatened by a rebellion and to deal with what its foreign ministry calls a “sharp degradation of security” ahead of the Central African country’s presidential election.
Five French military aid workers who were posted to the Central African Defence Ministry were recalled to Paris at the end of April.
France continues to contribute around 100 soldiers to the European mission EUTM-RCA, which mobilizes nearly 200 soldiers to train the Central African Armed Forces, FACA.
