US Open champion Daniil Medvedev booked his place in the French Open second round with a comfortable straight-set win over Argentine Facundo Bagnis on Tuesday.
Recall that the World number two who won 6-2 6-2 6-2 against Argentine Facundo Bagnis, had not won a match at Roland Garros in four attempts prior to his 2021 quarter-final run, which included victories over Reilly Opelka and Cristian Garin before ending with defeat to eventual finalist Stefanos Tsitsipas.
It was a comfortable first-round victory for the 26-year-old in Paris after missing the bulk of the European spring schedule on the surface due to a hernia procedure in April.
“I love Roland Garros, especially since last year. I hope this year I can go further,” said Medvedev, who will meet Serb Laslo Djere or Lithuanian Ricardas Berankis next.
“When I went under the operation I didn’t think I was going to play on clay, but I managed with the doctor and physio to get back. Physically, I feel 100 percent.”
