The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) said it has commenced “Operation RAID” on road traffic offenders in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT). This was disclosed by the FRSC Sector Commander, Mr. Samuel Ochi on Monday in Abuja.
According to the Sector Commander, the operation is intended to ensure that anyone who commits traffic offences such as driving against traffic, disobeying traffic control personnel, neglect of traffic directions amongst others be punished according to the law.
Mr. Ochi said that proper arrangement has been put to place to ensure the operation which is mainly targeted at recalcitrant riders in the outskirts of Abuja is successfully carried out.
Ochi noted that the FRSC was working in collaboration with other agencies of government to ensure total enforcement and enlightenment of motorists.
He added that the FRSC would continue to adopt new strategies in order to attain a safe motoring environment for everyone.
“This is called ‘Operation RAID’; and it will run through the month of May. We are going to enforce on recklessness too.
“It will be an enforcement on all forms for recklessness, including those that are not properly licensed and those without number plates.
“And of course, we know that many of the motorcycles and tricycle riders did not register their keke Napep and bikes properly, and thereby get themselves indulge in activities that could threaten the security of FCT” Mr. Ochi said.
As at March 2021, the Corps Public Education Officer, ACM Bisi Kazeem, said the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) arrested 456,655 traffic offenders nationwide for committing 507,279 offences in 2020 as against 629, 692 offenders and 703,523 offences in 2019.
