Gunmen have abducted Former President Goodluck Jonathan’s cousin, Jephthah Robert, at his residence in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State, on Monday, but the abductors have not contacted the family.
The police spokesman in Bayelsa State, SP Asinim Butswat, who confirmed the abduction, said police have been making efforts to rescue the victim and bring culprits to book.
The news of Robert’s abduction filtered after the state Commissioner for Industry, Trade and Investment, Federal Otokito, was freed by his abductors.
Otokito who was abducted on January 20 by some gunmen believed to be crude oil thieves, regained his freedom with injuries on his body, swollen black eyes, bandages on his back and right arm.
Narrating his ordeal in the hands of his kidnappers, the commissioner said he thought he would not return home to see his children.
