Gunmen attacked a police facility- Ideato South Police Station on Thursday in Imo state.
The attack was confirmed in a statement by the police spokesperson, a chief superintendent of police in Imo, Mike Abattam on Thursday.
He said, “The gunmen were shooting sporadically, and threw Improvised Explosive Devices into the station.
“The hoodlums were immediately repelled by the command’s tactical team and the police operatives of the division and in the ensuing gun duel, the hoodlums were overwhelmed by the superior fire-power of the police.”
He noted that although no life was lost during the attack, the improvised bomb caused “minimal damage” to the police facility.
Imo state, the epicenter of Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB)’s activities and other states in the South-east have witnessed several deadly attacks on the police and other public institutions.
