Gunmen on Friday reportedly killed three people and a leader of Amotekun corps in Igangan, a community in Ibarapa North local government of Oyo State
According to an eye witness, the attack began at about 7 p.m. after the gunmen arrived at the community with two Hilux vans, an 18-seater Hummer bus, and a Toyota Sienna bus.
11 people were killed in June in an attack on the same community
In the attack, Police spokesperson in Oyo State, Adewale Osifeso, said several properties were also destroyed. Adewale said, “On 5th June 2021 at about 2310hrs, suspected armed bandits in their numbers invaded Igangan Community in the dead of the night to unleash mayhem on unsuspecting members therein.
“In the process, Eleven (11) persons including some of the assailants were confirmed dead, while some vehicles and buildings including the Palace of the Asigangan of Igangan town and a filling station were torched.
Another source said “They came in military uniform. So, we lowered our guards. Before we knew it, they started attacking us.”
The convener of Igangan Development Advocate, Oladiran Oladokun, also said the gunmen “came in military camouflage to deceive the people and change the narrative that it was security operatives who stormed the town in search of those who engage in smuggling activities.”
