Unknown Gunmen on Monday morning shot dead the Chairman of All Progressives Congress (APC) in Atakumosa East Central Local Government Area of Osun State, Gbenga Ogbara in his house in Ogangan.
The incident was confirmed by the Police Public Relations Officer, Osun Command, Yemisi Opalola who said investigation was ongoing. She also promised that the perpetrators will be brought to book.
“The APC Chairman was killed around 12am by some gunmen. Policemen have since been deployed to the area. Investigation is ongoing on the matter. The criminals will not escape justice,” she noted.
This comes as some members of the Civil Society Organisations in Osun State have stormed major roads in Oshogbo, as they threaten to continue to demand justice for innocent residents that have been allegedly unjustly killed in the state by police officers.
The groups vowed to mobilise youths to begin another round of protests if extra-Judicial killings continue in the state.
They made the threat on Friday following the death of a boy Abiola Olamide, who was alleged to have been killed by police officers.
Last month, Aragbiji of Iragbijiland, Oba Abdur-Rasheed Ayotunde Olabomi, called on President Muhammadu Buhari to compel the inspector general of police to ensure justice for his son, Saheed Olabomi, who was killed by a policeman, Sgt Adamu Garuba, in Osogbo.
At a press conference in his palace, the traditional ruler said Olabomi was gruesomely killed by the policeman, adding that the family wanted justice for the deceased, lamenting that Sgt Garuba had not been prosecuted.
Olabomi was shot dead by the policeman at about 5pm at Oke-Onitii area of Osogbo, the state capital, on July 27, 2021. The incident resulted into a riot, as youths blocked major roads in Osogbo, protesting the killing.
