Uganda’s Army spokeswoman, Flavia Byekwaso, disclosed on Tuesday that gunmen sprayed bullets at a car carrying General Katumba Wamala, Uganda’s Minister of Works and Transport in an attempt to assassinate him. The former army commander was injured while his daughter and driver were shot dead.
The gunmen riding motorcycles opened fire at the vehicle carrying the Ugandan minister in the Kampala suburb of Kiasasi.
Pictures released on social media showed bullet holes in a car window and casings on the ground. There were also pictures of Wamala with his mouth opened beside his car and blood on his trousers.
“There was a shooting involving him; he is hurt and he’s being taken to the hospital. His driver was killed,” Army spokeswoman, Brigadier Flavia Byekwaso reported.
“He sustained injuries in both shoulders,” lawmaker,Chris Baryomunsi reported.
In 2017, there was also an attempt to assassinate Wamala in the same suburb in the capital.
