British actress, Thandiwe Newton has confirmed the return to the original spelling of her Zimbabwean name. She revealed this in an interview with British Vogue when she attended the cover of its May Edition.
Speaking with Vogue, she disclosed her challenges from eating disorder that almost killed her.
She further talked about how her career has developed over the years in line with changes to the relationship with her craft.
She explained the meaning of her Zimbabwean name ‘Thandiwe’ as ‘beloved’ from Shona, a language in Zimbabwe, where her mother hails from.
She confirmed she will now go by the name Thandiwe Newton both in TV and movie credits.
According to Vogue, the “W” was “missed out” from her first film credit (listed on IMDB as 1991’s “Flirting”) for decades.
