The Inspector-General of Police, Usman Alkali Baba has assured citizens of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Plateau State and other states of safety as they go on about their day-to-day activities.
This was disclosed on Friday in a press release signed by CP Frank Mba, Force Public Relations Officer at the Force Headquarters in Abuja.
This assurance comes as a result of the unintended, viral spread of an internal directive issued by the IGP to the Commissioners of Police in Plateau State and FCT to be at alert as Boko Haram insurgents plans an imminent attack.
According to the press release, the IGP noted that the alert was not intended to be a source of panic but rather reassure citizens about the intelligence depth, capacity and preparedness of the Nigeria Police to contain any threat to lives and property. He added that the alert does not in any way suggests that an attack is imminent in any of the two States.
He therefore calls for calm, urging citizens to go about their normal activities as the Police Force continues their duty of ensuring peace and security.
