Ike Ekweremadu of the Peoples Democratic Party has emerged as Deputy Senate President for the 8th Senate which was inaugurated today.
Ekweremadu defeated Senator Mohammed Ali Ndume of All Progressives Congress in an election conducted in the Senate chamber.
Ekweremadu was the immediate past Deputy Senate President of the 7th Assembly and was nominated by Senator George Sekibo from Rivers State.
This is the first time since the return of Democracy that an opposition party would be producing the Deputy Senate President.
