Just three months ahead of the Olympics, Japan’s government has declared on Friday state of emergency in Tokyo and three western prefectures of Osaka, Kyoto and Hyogo from April 25 to May 11.
This is coming as a result of resurgence of Covid-19 that is holding the country by the jugular.
TOS News gathered that this is the third state of emergency in Japan since the outbreak of Covid-19.
On Thursday, Tokyo recorded 861 new infections; a numbers not seen since January while Osaka reported 1,167 cases, slightly down from a record number a day earlier.
Earlier this week, Japan’s Prime Minister, Yoshihide Suga insisted the emergency measures would not affect preparations for the Tokyo Games.
