Kaduna State Governor, Malam Nasir El-Rufai, said on Tuesday that the state government would soon launch a Four-Year Development Plan, 2016 to 2020, with inputs from the citizenry.
El-Rufai disclosed this at a dinner organised by the state’s Ministry of Budget and Planning for the Crowd-Sourcing Committee and top 15 of “My Great Kaduna Competition,” with the state governor.
He said it had become necessary to involve the people in the state’s development strategy, following the current economic crisis in the country.
The governor said the state government, through the crowdsourcing strategy, hoped to build a new economic strategy away from oil that would be powered by the intellectual, the enterprising and hardworking citizenry.
“The efforts of the 15 people here show that it is possible for Nigeria to survive without oil by moving away from addiction to oil, rent seeking and the corruption associated with it.

“The circumstances in the oil market have forced us as a state to rethink our development strategy, because to plan around oil prices is no longer tenable.
“We must learn to be innovative; to use our intellect; to use the entrepreneurial capacity of our people and our hard work to survive these difficult times,” he said.
The governor said to get out of the current economic difficulty, there was a need to forget about oil and diversify; adding that the situation could get worse.
“It is scary; but rather than succumb to panic paralysis, let us seize the opportunities before us and move away from the era of oil addiction to a new economy that is powered by the intellect, the enterprise and the hard work of all our citizens,” he said.
He added that the top 15 names would be inscribed and included as contributors to the forthcoming development plan to be launched soon.
El-Rufai charged them to maintain their commitment to the future growth and prosperity of the state.
Earlier, the Commissioner for Budget and Planning, Muhammad Abdullahi, explained that the essence of the Crowd- Sourcing was to get the people to contribute and determine the direction they want government to follow.
