Luis Suarez says Erling Haaland would be a better choice of signing than Kylian Mbappe.
Both Manchester United and Man City are interested in Haaland after his fine form for Borussia Dortmund, but there has also been speculation over Mbappe’s future at PSG due to the fact he only has just over a year left on his contract.
United’s links to Haaland are well-known, with the Reds showing an interest in the Norway international when he moved from RB Salzburg to Dortmund in January 2020.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer also has a close relationship with the 20-year-old after their time working together at Molde.
Speaking to Gerard Romero on Twitch, Uguyuan forward Suarez, now at Atletico Madrid, said, whilst Mbappe is world-class, Haaland has the potential to become a generation-defining player.
He said: “Haaland is a great player, he’s at a spectacular level, he has an admirable physical strength.
“He’s one of the best number nines in the world and will define an era.
“I’m a bit more in favour of Haaland, but Mbappe is at a great level.”
Haaland recently caused a stir by storming off the pitch after Dortmund’s 2-2 draw with Bundesliga strugglers Koln.
Yet the forward has played down speculation over his future, pointing to his long contract at Dortmund.
“I still have a three-year contract,” he said. “I’m not concerned about that.”
Haaland did offer an indication of what clubs must offer him should he opt to make a move at any point.
In a slightly obvious answer, Haaland said: “They must want me.”
