The Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde on Wednesday inaugurated the 65km Moniya-Ijaiye-Iseyin Road in Ibadan.
The governor performed the inauguration with his Benue State counterpart, Samuel Ortom, as part of activities to mark his second anniversary in office.
At the ceremony which was held at Akerele Local Government in Ibadan and Iseyin Town, in Iseyin Local Government Makinde said the road cost N9.9billion or N152million per kilometre for total reconstruction, adding that going by the quality of work done by the contractor, Kopek Construction Ltd, it is expected to last at least 10 years without any rehabilitation.
The Moniya-Ijaiye-Iseyin Road is the link between Ibadan and Oke-Ogun, the state’s ‘food basket’.
On September 29, 2018, Makinde emerged as the gubernatorial candidate of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) for the 2019 general elections for Oyo State, after polling 2772 votes at the primary election that took place at liberty stadium, Oke-Ado in Ibadan.
On March 9, 2019, Makinde polled 515, 621 votes, defeating his closest rival, Mr Adebayo Adelabu of the All Progressive Congress(APC) who polled 357,982 votes in the governorship election.
Seyi Makinde on 29 May 2019 was sworn in as the 28th executive Governor of Oyo State. Makinde takes over from Late Senator Abiola Ajimobi after the latter’s eight years in office.
