Ondo State Governor Olusegun Mimiko has warned that the incessant crisis between Fulani herdsmen and farmers in the south-west states of Nigeria should not be allowed to escalate into ethnic crisis.
Governor Mimiko gave the warning while meeting with the leadership of the Mayetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria in the south-west states in his office in Akure, the Ondo State capital.
Governor Mimiko advocated for the construction of dams for the herdsmen to breed their cattle in a conducive environment.
He also called for increased income and access to education for the herdsmen.
The cattle breeders have been meeting several stakeholders to achieve their mission of peace and enhancement of their businesses in the south western states of Nigeria.
The National Secretary of the association, Othman Ngelzerma, disclosed that they have been doing a lot of enlightenment for their members to respect the culture of their host communities.
While stating their commitment to the peace of their host communities, he said that they have also been educating their members on the need to avoid encroaching on the farms.
