
The Nigerian Association of Resident Doctors (NARD) has been tasked by the chief medical director of the University of Abuja Teaching Hospital, Gwagwalada Dr. Bisallah Ekele to put in their best to ensure that they are not overwhelmed by the challenges bedeviling the nation’s health sector.
Dr. Ahmed added that, though there are glaring challenges in the health sector,” this is not a place to enumerate them; rather we will try to rub minds together to ensure that the challenges are completely eradicated.”
He made the statement at the opening ceremony of the 2022 Ordinary General Meeting of the National Association of Resident Doctors, which had as its theme: “The Role of Doctors in Governance”.
Also speaking, the President of the Nigerian Medical Association NMA, Dr. Uche Ojinmah who was represented by the NMA FCT chairman, Dr. Enema Amodu, lauded the association under the leadership of Dr. Dare Godiya Ishaya for its consistency in ensuring that Nigerians get the best medical services.
Delivering the address of the NMA President, Dr. Amodu said “We promise to treat NARD and all Doctors, in a respectful, responsible, responsive and proactive style of leadership.
“We welcome all constructive criticism and promise to carry members along.
“I call on all who were dissatisfied with the NMA to get ready for a round table meeting so as to find solutions in the interest of the NMA and all her affiliates.
“We must not destroy NMA under any guise, as it will not be of any benefit to us.
“We shall meet with NARD and other affiliates to activate a synchronous relationship. We once again apologise for any inadequacies in the very recent past history of NMA; we assure you that NMA is back on track.”
In his keynote address, Dr. Charles Ugwuanyi told the doctors that they have the potential to be anything they wish to become in life. He said “always remember that this endowment that God has bestowed upon you, gives you the capacity to be in-charge of your holistic environment.”
“Remember you are like a tree and tree has seed in them; do not let your seeds to be crushed” he added.
In his address, the President of the association, FCT chapter, Dr. Etukumana Iboro, said the university of Abuja teaching hospital has witnessed tremendous growth under excellent practice of Doctors and also called on all Doctors and health workers to take the their job seriously and participate fully in Nigeria’s politics to secure a greater future for the nation’s health sector.
The 2022 ordinary general meeting which featured lectures also witnessed award presentation to deserving Doctors.
