Hours after the state of the nation address by Vladmir Putin, Russian police arrested major supporters of jailed opposition leader, Alexei Navalny and have begun closing central squares in the country’s capital and other cities before protests planned for Wednesday evening in support of the Kremlin critic.
Navalny’s spokeswoman, Kira Yarmysh has also been arrested outside her apartment while Lyubov Sobol, a lawyer working for Mr. Alexei was dragged from a taxi by uniformed men this morning. She is currently being held in a police van.
TOS News gathered that Navalny’s regional headquarters have also been raided by the police, as they seek to disrupt, and eventually liquidate his political organisation across the country.
Pro-Navalny protesters have been called in more than 100 cities, including Moscow and St Petersburg.
