The Nigeria Center for Disease Control (NCDC) has announced on Sunday April 18, that the country recorded 26 new infections which is the lowest daily figure recorded since last year April 15, of which at the time, the disease had just started spreading in some states with only about 400 infections recorded in the entire country.
Sunday became the sixth consecutive day that the country recorded no daily death from the COVID-19 disease which has caused over 2,000 deaths in Nigeria and also over 3 million deaths globally.
Although some countries are witnessing a resurgence in COVID-19 infections, Nigeria has witnessed a massive reduction in new infections in the past month from over 1,000 daily cases between December 2020 and February 2021, to less than 200.
Also, according to the NCDC, the fatality toll from COVID-19 in Nigeria remains 2,061 since there has been no fatality for the past six days. Nigeria continues to roll out the Oxford AstraZeneca vaccine nationwide as about 1.08 million people have received the vaccine.
