Nigerian Minister of Youth and Sports, Sunday Dare, has said the National Stadium in Surulere, Lagos State, will be ready for use in August after 19 years of neglect.
The sport minister said the stadium was brought back to life through the ‘adopt-a-stadium initiative’ created by his ministry.
The minister said this when he paid a courtesy call to Ogun State governor, Dapo Abiodun, in Abeokuta.
He hinted that the National Stadium that was built in 1973 in the city of Lagos turned into a state of pity almost 20 years ago due to neglect and total abandonment.
The minster who explained that the rehabilitation work at the stadium had reached 75%, noted that his ministry’s initiative of partnering private individuals in the country to adopt a stadium for rehabilitation had helped in rebuilding the Moshood Abiola International Stadium, Abuja.
