Nigerian firm, Ketron Investment Limited, has acquired Retail Supermarkets Nigeria Limited (RSNL), owner and operator of the Shoprite stores in Nigeria.
Ketron has said the change in ownership has received the approval of the Nigerian regulator, the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC).
In August 2020, Shoprite hinted that its business in Nigeria operated under Retail Supermarkets Nigeria Limited “may be classified as a discontinued operation.”
The process of Shoprite acquisition began last year and Shoprite Holdings still stands as Africa’s largest food retailer.
Tayo Amusan, Chairman of Ketron, expressed his excitement and gave assurance of continued operations across all outlets and the introduction of more Nigerian-made products.
“It is our vision to create fundamental change for the better within Nigeria,”Tayo Amusan said.
Shoprite was launched in Lagos in December 2005 and has since expanded to 25 outlets across 11 states, including Federal Capital Territory, Abuja .
