Director-General of the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency(NIMASA), Dr Bashir Jamoh, has pointed out reasons Lawyers, Judges and other vital prosecuting agencies should be involved in the achievement of maritime security.
Jamoh made this known in a recent statement given out by the agency at the maiden edition of the Nigerian Admiralty Colloquium titled ‘Achieving maritime safety, security, and shipping development’.
He said the theme of the colloquium was suitable because with the Deep Blue project that was introduced by the government, matters as regards maritime crimes on Nigerian territorial waters would be arrested.
He assured that from 2022, the scope of the colloquium would be expanded to include Justices of the Supreme Court.
The NIMASA boss also explained that the agency had received a judgment against 10 criminals, of which seven are Nigerians while three are foreigners. He revealed that they were sentenced to seven-years jail term each for maritime offences on Nigerian waters.
