The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has said that it lost seven of its officers who were on official duty in Niger State this year.
This was disclosed by the Niger State commandant of the corps, Haruna Bala Zurmi while briefing newsmen on the command’s stewardship in 2021.
“In the last one year, the command lost seven personnel who were on official duty,” he said.
He said the command received 1,578 cases bordering on criminal breach of trust, burglary, theft, assault, land disputes and debt, among others, adding that 1,428 out of the 1,578 were resolved; 15 cases were prosecuted with eight convictions.
Zurmi said the command recovered over N56.98million within the period under review, noting that the funds were returned to the rightful owners.
He further explained that 147 civil cases were referred to the peace and conflict management unit for alternative disputes resolution.
While stressing the need for community participation in the fight against crime, he advised citizens to desist from criminal acts and give useful information to the security agencies.
